16.5 miles out of pie town
Decided to wake up early and have pie for breakfast at the gathering place. After pie and far too many cups of coffee I was at the post office as soon as it opened. The post office man was great and knew all about my socks, unfortunately he said he didn't see them and told me to come back at 11 when UPS shows up. At 11 I checked again and he said they arrived and they were waiting for me at the toaster house! Socks!
Side entrance to the Gathering Place.
This sun hangs from the side of the toaster house.
Banjos toe was wanting to pop out of his shoe so he spent some time foraging through the wall of rejected and worn out shoes to see if be could find something to wear to Grants. No success.
Banjo and I headed out around noon and caught up with Steve on the dirt road out of town. We walked with him for a bit then rushed off.
There is a friendly couple 16 miles out of Pie Town who invite hikers in to use their water spigot. We caught them in the evening and they invited us in to warm up by their fireplace. Nicest people, full of stories — we couldn't get a word in edgewise. It got late and they insisted that we sleep in a trailer on their property. Glad we took them up on their offer as it howled all night — snow, sleet, rain.
