Lava

Day 18

All the way to Grants

After spending a day on the road and a rainy cold night on top of a Mesa it was nice to start the day on some trail. This quickly came to an end and we had to steeply descent back to he road passing by a beautiful natural arch — and I mean steep.

By the arch a group of gals were having breakfast and Banjo invited himself over to eat all their food. Midway through that meal Happy Joe drove by and gave us more food. So much food, so much trail magic... Not a lot of walking.

It was noon and we had only hiked 8 miles.

We soon got to the lava fields, or as the Spanish called them, the badlands and started our traverse. 8 miles of burly lava field walking. Which was actually pretty fun — going from cairn to cairn.

I'd rather walk on this than asphalt any day

Once we got out of the lava the weather came. Rain, hail... Not fun. We decided to put on the turbo boosters and hoof it to grants.
